All fields are optional, but you can use as many as you want.
Leave a field at its default value if you don't want to limit the search by that field.
You cannot use boolean operators in text field searches.
Searches are not case sensitive.
Pattern matching,. You can use the following wildcard characters in all searches:
The underline character ( _ ) stands for one character. For example, the
search "wom_n" would retrieve both "woman" and "women".
The percent character ( % ) stands for any number of characters (including none).
For example, the search "q%t%" would retrieve "qt.", "quartet", and "quartette".
But, keep in mind that it would also retrieve "quintet".
Artist index entry names:
Names must be searched in inverted order (Surname, Forename).
Label credit name:
This is the artist name, group name, and accompaniment exactly as listed on the disc label.
Names must be searched in straight order (Forename Surname).
The search algorithm ignores case and punctuation. "And", "&", and comparable conjunctions are
interchangeable.
Label name:
Add the parenthesized location to differentiate between labels with the same name.
Label owner:
At this time only one owner is searchable for each label.
Names must be searched in inverted order (Surname, Forename).
Disc pressing plant:
Pressing plant is searchable only for discs that have matrix numbers listed in GJ.
I have made no assumptions about the manufacturer of discs for which I do not have
matrix numbers.
Track title:
Drop "A", "An", and "The" at the beginning of the title. Also drop punctuation
at the beginning of the title.
The search algorithm ignores case and punctuation. "And", "&", and comparable conjunctions are
interchangeable.
Composer:
Composer names have been transcribed from the label. Although I have standardized
spacing and punctuation, I have made no effort to expand initials or correct spelling.
I have, however, used the standardized generic credits "unk." (for unknown), "trad." (for
traditional), and "p.d." (for public domain).
Note that a very high percentage of gospel records do not list composer credits. In these
cases I use the standard phrase "no composer credit". The credit "unk." means that
"unknown" appears on the label.
Lead vocal type & Instruments:
Vocal and instrumental characteristics are searchable only for tracks with MP3 song samples.
Tagging is usually based on only the first 30 seconds of a track (the duration of the sample).
Moreover it is based on what I can discern with my poor, tired ears. Your perceptions might be
different from mine.
Each instrument appears only once in a description regardless of how many are audible.
